Hi Tigers!

As Analy's new College and Career Center Coordinator I would like to formally introduce myself to you all. I am Ms. Brown, and I am so excited to be joining the Analy family. Although we are all adjusting to distance learning I want to begin by letting you know that the College and Career Center has been moved into the library this year. Once we are all safely able to resume classes on campus I hope to create an environment that excites each student to prepare for their future!

I believe that each student is capable of achieving their goals and I want to help provide the tools you may need to get there. Your path after high school will be uniquely yours and may look very different from your peers. My goal is to assist you in finding that path and help you achieve a happy, healthy, and successful future.

The path I took after high school was different than many of my peers but it is what brought me to this school today. I am very proud of the steps I have taken thus far. I lived in Santa Rosa my entire life and graduated from Maria Carillo High School. I played sports and enjoyed learning but didn't quite apply myself academically during my high school career. Upon graduation, I wasn't sure what path I wanted to take. I enrolled in classes at SRJC simply because that was what so many of my peers who weren't headed off to a four-year college were doing. I felt lost and had no passion for any of the classes I had enrolled in. I decided to drop out of my classes and leave the country. I found a volunteer organization called Máximo Nivel. The organization has programs in Perú, Costa Rica, and Guatemala. I boarded a plane by myself and went to Costa Rica for three months.

During my time in Costa Rica, I lived with a host family, volunteered at a local soup kitchen for children living in poverty, and got certified in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). My time in Costa Rica ignited my passion for travel and learning about new cultures and places around the world. Additionally, I discovered that I loved helping young people. This is what later led me back to education so that I could work in a high school with students such as yourselves during such a crucial time in their lives.

After traveling some more, I returned to SRJC and dedicated myself to furthering my education. Having a plan made classes much more enjoyable because I had a goal that I was working towards. I became a dedicated student. I later transferred to Sonoma State University and took classes focused on education, social work, gender and racial equality, along with so many other topics that I was excited to further educate myself on. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Sociology and plan to return to obtain a Master's in Counseling.

Seniors, you may be feeling an immense amount of pressure right now to figure out what your plans for after high school looks like. If you know exactly what you want to do, that is fantastic! I am excited for you and am eager to help you put your plans into motion. If you are feeling lost, as I did after high school, do not panic. You still have so much time and I am here to help you find a path that is right for you! This is exactly what the College and Career Center is here for.

Sophomores and Juniors, with a year or two of high school under your belt, you may also begin to have those panicking feelings. Don't fret! Time is on your side and we can work together to create a plan to help you accomplish your goals. It is never too early or too late to invest in your future.

Freshmen, you should be so excited about the next four years of your lives. Together, we will all navigate this new campus and conquer this school year. I am excited to help each of you find your passions and put plans in motion.

As we enter the start of a very different school year you may be feeling a bit lost. I know that the connections we make through a computer screen may not compare to the ones that happen face-to-face but I promise that your teachers, administration, and myself are here for you in any way needed. You are all such resilient, brave, and incredible humans and I am so excited to begin making connections with each of you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me. My virtual office door is always open.

Sincerely,

Ms. Brown
